Where are the WHEEL?!
It's really weird.. but all other Canon cameras have the PASM wheel.. how do 1D users do it?
Anyone care to explain?

That is a picture of an Old 1D,. Must be a Mark IIN given the screen size.

These older 1D bodies had a totally different menu system.
The mkIII did away with it, and they are much more similar the other canon bodies now.

that said, the wheel is not there because of weather sealing.
Instead, there are weather sealed buttons in the wheels place, which you press to then adjust these modes.

1D MkIIN top view.

There are no preset "scene" modes or "idiot" modes on a 1D.

Yea.. well the 1D-X does not have a wheel aswell.. so the question remains :)

Possibly because it's easier to accidentally knock it without realising?

Also, as mentioned, weather sealing?

On my 1Ds I have to press and hold the 'mode' button on the left of the top plate while turning the control dial. This changes from Av to Tv, etc. Also on the left are buttons you press and hold while turning the dial to change things like ISO, drive, AF mode, etc etc. Newer models may have a slightly different system.

Some cameras. Some lenses.

Yeah, starting with the 1D Mark III, you no longer need to hold down the selection button(s) while turning the Main Dial to make your selection. :) But I still do, though, out of habit--I still use the 1D II along with the 1D III and the 1Dx.

Same solution as when the input wheel was introduced on the T90, back in 1987 or so.

Ah, but it DOES have a wheel and you DO need to use it to change modes or make other selections. ;)
Difference with the 1D series cameras is that you also have to press a button along with turning the wheel. :D

BTW, welcome to the 1D club.

I hate the mode dial wheel on my 50D now compared to how the 1D operates. Actually in general I MUCH prefer the ergonomics of the 1D series.
