I put out a nesting box for Eastern Bluebirds, and I got a bird that is blue, but not an Eastern.
I tried to identify in 3 different books, but no luck. It has a head like a chickadee, but the blue is not what I find in the books on chickadees.
This is East Tennessee.

Carolina Chickadee

It's a Chickadee alright, but maybe not the more common (or more northern) Black Capped.

Was the bird blue to your eyes? They tend to be grey in the parts that have the bluish tint, and white balance could make that gray much bluer than what it actually is.

I can't tell from the first two shots, but the last one looks like a Chickadee to me.

I agree that it looks like a chickadee. However, I can't find any pics in the bird books that are blue like this little guy is. It is blue to the eye as well as showing up on the photo. I did kick up the vibrance and a little saturation.
Thanks for the info guys. I will search the chickadee route.
By the way, other chickadees are very interested in my bird feeder, but this little guy doesn't go near it.

There will be days when you get the shot(s) you missed days, months or years before.

Thanks. Actually, I want to try it again today, only in the bright light. That shot was late afternoon when I had to use 1/1000 shutter. If I can use a much higher speed, I might get a better freeze of the BIF.

1/2000 or higher with great light. Good luck.

I finally found a picture of a Carolina Chickadee that is definitely blue:

We put out 7 of those nesting boxes. I need to check the others and see if I have any Eastern Bluebirds in them. They are really the reason we put the boxes out, but I like the little chickadee too.

If you get a Chickadee it's a good thing.

Around here, you want anything but starlings and English Sparrows.
The English (house) sparrow especially is an invader that pushes everything else out. Giving a Chickadee a home is a good thing :)

Chickadees carolina or black capped do not have blue coloring. The blue you are seeing maybe from a combination of lighting, atmospheric effects and camera settings especially ISO and f-stop. They are colored black, white, grey and some brown on the underside.

"DESCRIPTION: Carolina chickadees are small birds four to five inches in length and being mostly gray above and white below. They have very small black bills, a black cap and throat, and white cheeks. Their flanks are a pale buff color."

This quote is from the link you posted.
