Newish video guy here, mostly still. I've been doing short films for my business which are usually 90 seconds or less and 100% static. A friend of mine wants me to do a promo film for him and I know a slider will be needed because it can't be single cam/ static for everything.

He's buying me the gear in exchange for the work, but I don't want to drain his bank account and I want the best bang for the buck. After searching through the forums here, I've become very well informed on bearings vs. friction and length. I only intend on one tripod for support so 24-34" is where I'm looking at.

http://www.glidegear.net …0v8o71e2dspj6qibkn0oou8c3 (external link) is $100 shipped and the reviews on YouTube are pretty good, slightly better than some of the same priced other "no-name" brands on Amazon. Video review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgAko0u9ndE (external link)

The K2 http://konovaphoto.com/konova-slider-k2-series.html (external link) - seems to be the "go-to" piece most people suggest. My concern here is 2-part. It's 2.5x the cost, is the value really that much more? Also, I've read several reviews that lubrication and cleaning are a concern and must be attended to on a continuous basis.

Beyond the higher build quality, the Konova slider has highly adjustable legs and many more accessories(crank, motors, and legs) than the Glidegear. If you will need the extra features, your choice is clear.

The cleaning and lubrication is a non-issue if it's kept in the bag and out of dusty environments.
As a habit, I give it a wipe down/lube with the pads Konova include.

It's a great product for the price point, and I'm not sure I'd agree with the cost vs value comparison.

I have not used any sliders professionally yet, but came across this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1ksh28ogmg (external link)
It looks very smooth.
The Konova looks amazing for the price! Remind me to stay off the internet. I need a steadicam, but now I want one of these...

*edit*: I love the glidegear as well, but it appears a hair jerkier in test shots. Ultimately, at least IMO, Konova wins. If you are really in a crunch though, the Glidegear would be a whole ton better than trying to smooth-walk a tripod. ;)

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

I m curious if anyone uses this dolly slider. It is another cheap friction base slider for $130, and it has been positively reviewed by various sites including chessycam.

The Glidegear is little more than an Igus Drylin slider.

The Konova certainly has more whistles and bells but IMHO the core sliding rail (which is the important bit) isn't as good as an Igus slider. By using one wheel between two rails the wheel always has to skid against one side of the channel which can cause unevenness. Also wheels are far more susceptible to surface crud.
