Like an editing program? Yes. This isn't the first camera to shoot Raw video, any good video editing program should be able to handle it. There are already codecs out for Canon's RAW video because of their cinema line of cameras.

Aside from video specific raw editing software, you should be able to pull a frame and edit it in Lr like any other DNG raw and then sync the edits to the whole segment ;). It's more tedious than editing in video specific software but if you just want to play around without buying new software it'll get you by.

Canon themselves have avoided any comment about Magic Lantern in the past.

I wonder if they will get involved now that this recent version of ML on 5DmkIII will cut into sales of their higher priced models. Until now there have never been any warranties waived due to use of ML but given this development it would seem like they have to protect their higher end camera sales (C300, 1D-C).

What do you folks think?

A week and a half ago, I didn't think they would be able to pull this off. I was wrong. They will get this right and it is huge. This has the potential to be a major game changer. The 5D MKIII has officially walked away from every DSLR out there. Forget DSLR comparisons, the RAW footage coming out of the 5DMKIII is getting closer to RED and Alexa territory now. 12.5 stops of dynamic range!

Even in this compressed Vimeo stream it looks incredible.

Frame-by-frame? I think I'll pass thanks.

No. Pull a frame, edit it, and then sync the edits across all frames. You only actually edit one frame, then create a preset for the rest of the footage. It's how I do my home video as I can't stand Premier Elements. After working in Lr everything else just feels too constrained.

If Adobe can make their next release (or update) of Premiere as easy to work with for raw video as we can with lightroom and raw images - that is to say a clean and unobtrusive workflow - that would be perfect. As it is right now, you can work with raw video in CS6 but its still not that intuitive or easy to work with.

That would be very nice. I haven't dealt with RAW video much. Shot some on a RED once a couple years back but never got around to playing with it. Not really sure about the workflow but maybe as RAW becomes more available to the masses I will take a closer look into it.

Raw is not good so much for what you can do with it now, but what you can do with it in the future. IOW, as processing software improves you haven't burned in a rendition you had to accept when codecs, file sizes, etc. were less ideal. Doesn't change the fact that you're on the bleeding edge of things right now WRT those same constraints.

Ok that doesn't sound too bad. Can LR 4 do that now?

I always create presets in LR, but don't know about the potential of exporting thousands of frames with the same preset. My biggest worry would be that it would eat up a ton of time in LR to do all the adjustments and then wait for it to export thousands of frames, only to have to go back into a software like Premiere and put the audio back in, etc... RAW video would definitely add some extra time and steps to any workflow.
