Go to the camera shop. The only one within 50 miles is in Daytona. They're CLOSING!
Thanx, guys.

Don't know where you are but there is a good camera shop in Orlando (forgot their name) and Southern Photo in Melbourne, that's about 80 miles south of Daytona.

Went to Clem's Classic Cameras in the flea market complex at Tomoka and Int'l Speedway Blvd. What a wonder! He's got film cameras, digitals, DSLRs, slide projectors from 1870, Viewmasters, you name it! He doesn't have things in stock long, as he deals mostly in used. What a selection of lenses! Been there 25 years.

When I come to get my DSLR, I'll bite the bullet on price and buy from him. I'll hope for a Canon EOS t3,4, or 5, (or all those with an "i"), or a Nikon d3200, d3100. He had a Nikon D60 in stock.

Very knowledgeable on shooting, too.

This guy's got BROWNIE cameras! Gad! I haven't seen one of them for half a century.

Do the Canon DSLRs have radio remote control (R/C) of the shutter? The Nikon d3100 has WIRE remote control, and the d3200 has R/C. For tripod shooting, this eliminates the wiggle induced by hand contact when pressing the trigger. Mainly interested in t2, t2i, t3, t3i, t4, t4i.

yes pretty much all modern Canon DSLRs have the capability to use an infrared remote to trigger the shutter

Is there some sort of lens compatibility chart, so I can yearn after the appropriate lens for a t3i? I'm told some lenses won't work with some cameras. And what of Sigma and Tamron? Completely compatible?

Sigma/Tamron/Tokina/Bower/etc all have lens that will fit as long s you get EF mount.

Canon has two mounts EF and EF-s. All Canon DSLR can take EF mounts but only their crop sensor can take EF-s lenses like Rebel line, xxD series and 7D. EF-s lenses can only for on crop sensor because it's a smaller sensor so it needs less and EF-s lenses are usually cheaper to produce but that doesn't mean they are not good. Some EF-s lenses are highly recommended over some of the "L" lenses.

OK, what about Tamron and Sigma, or even Tokina? These totally OK, too, as long as EF-S?

For 300 bucks you can get the canon rebel with 18-55 kit lens

It's a setup designed specifically for a user like you. It covers everything you need... and if it doesn't, you can complement it later.

Macro lenses cost about 500 bucks. Do you really care about macro to spend that much?

You can pick up a set of extension tubes (external link) for 20 bucks, a manual focus lens (external link) and have a great macro setup for 40 bucks. Or just use the extension tubes with the kit lens.

The size a DSLR is a disadvantage cause it's a pain to carry around... but it's a great tool to learn photography.

OK, new news. Extension tube? What is it and what does it do?

Answering your other question, I'm keeping the sx160is for macro shots. Does that very well.

Which Rebel? There are many. The T3i, which tempts me sorely, is one.

Check out the prices on refurbished Canon cameras and lenses at the Canon Direct store: http://shop.usa.canon.com …gory_10051_10051_-1_29252 (external link)
The cameras are indistinguishable from new except for the shutter count. I bought my 7D from them and there was not a mark on it. It looked brand new! I checked the shutter count and it was 496.

They currently have the T3i + 18-55mm IS kit lens on sale for $416. You're not going to beat that price. Highly recommended!

Wooo Haaa! Oh yeah! Great deals, but their website is so SLOW! Makes me NUTS waiting for screen changes.

Want to get in on one of those good lens deals.
