This is a shot of my beautiful wife of 35 years. She will be 60 years young this year. This is straight from the camera. I have a raw file. Any suggestions to improve?

In cropping, I would take out that really bright sun on the left and maybe burn it a bit, it really draws the eye away from the subject. I would also lighten her skin a bit, and her eyes a bit, and sharpen them. It's a nice expression, a very nice image. I'd just make those minor tweaks and call it a day. Happy Anniversary! Sue's advice was spot on but, you need to be aware of exposure in the bright sunlight when you use that great camera as you have overexposed areas in the scene. The things you do for yourself die with you, the things you do for others live forever.

I would also suggest using a flash for fill light and knocking down the exposure to better expose the background. I would also use a shallower DoF to blur the background more. 1DX | 5D MkII (gripped)

May 14, 2013 12:10 | #6 Good advice from all above. I'd just add that you might smooth out (but don't remove entirely) those fret wrinkles between her eyebrows. I think it's more likely squint wrinkles actually. Lovely lady. -- Image Editing OK --
