Hey Y'all
I'm not into birding but found this building a nest across he street from me. I was eating Breakfast and saw this fly up into the tree, so I grabbed my camera, no tripod and went to take a few pics. None are any good, I was in a hurry, but it looks like I have a few weeks to set up and get something good. But I don't have a clue what these are. I'd like to read up on them.
I've lived here for a long time I don't think these are native to busy city.
I was thinking some thype of Heron, but can't find pictures to match.

Looks like a yellow crowned night heron.

Thanks Miles
What's interesting is they are supposed to breed in swamps or marshes. All we have are swimming pools and drainage bayous.
I hope to get pictures of the chicks.

The San Antonio Zoo has a wild colony that breeds in trees near the alligator enclosure.
