Do you happen to use a Manfrotto head? If so, you can get the FR-T1 so you can leave the plate attached and still use the BR strap.

I wouldn't recommend going this route as I have personally witnessed the D-ring fail and drop a Nikon D4 and 70-200 combo straight onto the pavement.

D-ring from the Manfrotto plate or D-ring from the FR-T1? D-ring from the Manfrotto plate IS NOT design to hang ANYTHING.

I use the combo of Manfrotto & FR-T1 for awhile now and so far so good.

if you like sling straps, you need to look at the carry speed system, especially if you use the 70-200.

1 connection point on body, and 1 connection point on lens tripod mount. http://www.carryspeed.com …1-foldable-mounting-plate (external link)

I was referring to the Black Rapid D-ring. The D-ring version I believe used to be standard on the straps until they came up with this:

I know which one you are talking about. I have 2 of them. Did it really break and drop Nikon D4 and 70-200 combo? BR should know about that. I use them on 5d2 + Grip + 70-200 f/2.8 IS from time to time. Maybe it is time to buy the new design. Thanks for the info JB!

It's why the new design exists, so yeah, they knew about it. ;)

I use a 1d3 and 70-200 II all the time with my black rapid strap. Super comfy to carry and balances perfectly when the strap is attached to the lens, not the body.

Unscrew it, and screw in my tripod attachment...

Was that a trick question?

Well from what I could the tell the D-ring is not solid and it worked its way loose from the mount points. And apparently there were lots of issues with the fit on a Manfrotto plate too (at least in the early batches), do a search and you'll see what I mean.

I have a BlackRapid Classic that I use with my gripped 5D MIII with an RRS L bracket with either my 70-200 f/2.8 MII or 100-400 attached and no problem at all. I use the same connection as Erik S. Klein showed in his pictures. Kirk QRC-1 clamp for L bracket: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …_Quick_Release_Clamp.html (external link) and Op/Tech Uni loops for back up security: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …em_Connectors_Set_of.html (external link). I'm also looking at the Acratech Swift clamp: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …es&sts=ma&Top+Nav-Search= (external link) just because it's a little faster and I like the fact that it locks down but it's 3x's as expensive as the Kirk clamp.

I use a Black Rapid (7?) with my 100-400. Just firmly screw it onto the lens foot. A big advantage of the Black Rapid is the lens and body hang at your side away from your tripod. When shooting birds I have my 500 and gripped 7D on a tripod, usually aimed at a nest, and the 100-400 with the ungripped 7D (lighter) on the Black Rapid for birds in flight.

yeah, the kirk mount is so small, you dont even need to remove it depending on your ball head.

I used the RS-7 with the Bert under-arm strap on my 1D3 w/70-200 and loved it. I just sold my 1D3, so the R-strap has no home currently, but I can recommend it. It will probably go up on the sale block along with my ACK-E4 AC 1D power adapter, and some other items though, once I have time to do some spring cleaning.

No:-) Real question....will not work for me...to screw and unscrew. Probably I will need to find a more comfortable neck strap...the original one is really a pain when you have MKIII and 70-200II
