Sounds like a great lens, but just like Canon's other super-teles, way out of my price range.

I love it... almost $12k for the lens and the case is a $650 "option"... how much for the Canon hood? ;)

I can't believe Canon can't throw in a case when buying a $11.8K lens! I mean really...the case can't cost more them $75 to produce...

If one can afford a $12k lens, $649 is not much for a really nice case.

Lens is sold with the hood, case, rear cap, AND the "Canon E-145C Lens Cap for EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II". Canon includes the necessary accessories with the pro lenses. Consumer grade lenses do not have hoods included. They do have caps though...

Oh, I stand corrected... now, based on that I see that it's a much better deal... ;)

One legit question though... does that mean it goes to 560mm with the 1.4x enabled?

That's exactly what it does and with the appropriate light penalty.

Yes it does. With the flip of a switch.
