Long story short, had a thread a few days back about me losing my 7D and L lens. Got some feedback on which way to go. Was real close to going with another 7D. After much internal tug of war I decided to stick with my 40D which I bought after I lost my 7D and add some decent glass. On the Marketplace here I purchased a 70-200 2.8 IS and 85 1.8 in mint condition. Than I figured why not add something in the wide end. So I purchased Rokinon 35 1.4. All set...... right?

Kept thinking about all those poorly lit shots I was not able to make with the 7D and 40D. 6D was an option for a moment. Didn't care for the directional pad. AF system is kinda weak and wanted weather sealing living in Buffalo. So here I am on amazon looking at a new (100 clicks) 5DM3 w/ kit lens for $3200. Im thinking, if I buy the 7D again, Ill want that FF with great low light capabilities. If I go 6D Ill wish I spent the extra money. But man that's a lot of dough. So I hit the buy tab and bought my first FF DLSR. Its kinda nerve racking spending that kind of money in a few days. Im excited to where my photography goes in the many years ahead of me. But geez, I haven't spent that kinda money on a personal item in my whole life.

If I had the money available, I would snatch a 5D III in a heart beat. You are going to have so much fun after you get over the buyer's remorse.

I would have to keep my 7D though. Too good a camera to drop. I would drop my 40D backup.

Follow up with your thoughts on the new toy. Enjoy.

I thought you were going to say you had mixed feelings after using the camera for a while.

Not that I have one, but I suspect you will feel a whole lot better about it once you start using it.

Maybe you should have 2 car seats in your car now to strap both of your babies in ;)

The 5d3 better NEVER find itself on top of your car!! LOL

The 5D MIII is an awesome camera, I upgraded from a 40D. Yes it is quite a bit of money but it is well worth it. Keep in mind that it is not weather proof, it is weather resistant meaning if you stand in a down pour with the camera more than likely you will fry it and it will not be covered. If you are going to be out in weather like that be sure to get a camera raincoat and insurance on your gear. Have fun!

Seriously you will love the camera. It's better than the 7D in almost every possible way ;)

I was thinking the same thing, and was wonder what about the 5dIII would give mixed feelings especially since the OP came from a 7D/40D.

As for the Op's actually feelings, I had the same right hitting the buy button. I already had a 5dII at the time but once I got it and used it those feelings quickly went started going away. Once I sold my 5dII for about 1K less than the 5dIII cost me(effectively less as I kept the kits lens which is worth more than price difference on my 5dII kit and what I sold the body for-I got a really good deal on my kit but sold at an average price) those feelings were gone I was quite happy I finally made the right choice and got the 5dIII.

Same here. The 5D3 is one of a few purchases I've made in life that are large enough that you feel buyers remorse, but then it goes away instantly when you start using it.

1. Gibson Les Paul
2. Mesa Boogie Mark V Amp
3. Canon 5D3
4. Canon 70-200 2.8 is ii
5. Macbook Pro

In general, you get what you pay for. You won't regret it in the least bit.

No ; ) It's actually a 2009 Standard Traditional Plus. One of the only newer models that doesn't have a hollowed out body with all the weight relief holes.

The weather sealing on the 5D3 should be enough for normal weather and you can always do the shopping bag or dedicated cover like a hydro thingy from Think Tank.

I had similar feelings after purchasing my 6D with the 24-105. The most I'd spent on a body before then was just under $1K on my 50D. And to make matters worse, my debit card has a $2k limit on it so I had to go over to the bank and get the cash out then hand it over at the store. As the cashier counted out my stack of 50's I just kept thinking "this is two months worth of mortgage payments".

Once I spent an evening shooting at ISO 25600 all remorse was gone.

Once you start to know the camera, you won't regret it. If it make you feel better, check out this article.

Your camera out performs the C300 in video quality. So your camera is really worth $14000.00

I went 40D, 7D, 5Dii...hated the mark ii's focus. Got a mark iii, sold the mark ii and never looked back. The 40 is my backup, the other two have their specific uses. You Will Not Regret The 5Diii.!!!!!!
