The red lens is where the AF assist pattern is emitted through when the flash is mounted on the camera. In this case, the RF shield is not required because the FlexTT5 is used as a transmitter. The shield is required only when the flash is used as a remote slave and the FlexTT5 is used as a receiver. And in that case, the AF assist light is not required so blocking it would not be an issue.

Is there a way to get the AF assist pattern to emit when its off camera and mounted to a flex tt5?
