Ok, I've gotten fed up with shooting real estate with my 50d and Tokina 11-16mm. The lens is great but has issues with any stray light causing flare. I'm sick of fixing it!

So I am looking at suggestions for a wide angle for my 1d3 to start using for this purpose.

Thanks.

How about the Canon 8-15mm f/4.0L? Most likely you will be using a flash and all the lights will be on in the room so f/4.0 won't be a problem.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Ive been having the same issue as you, just switched from 1ds iii to a 1d iv and find my 16-35 not wide enough.
I ended up ordering a bower 14mm and im really hoping the distortion can be fixed on the 1D's and if not ill sell it and pick up a sigma 12-24. So depending on your budget i may suggest getting the 14mm or sigma 12-24

I don't use flash, all HDR.

But I don't need f2.8 as I've never shot that wide open with the Tokina. I need everything in focus anyway.

Have to check it out.

I'm hoping to stick with Canon glass. I fix any distortion in LR with no issues.

I have the Canon 8-15mm on my 5D3, and at 15mm it's obviously as wide as you can get. If you start to zoom under 15mm, you start to get the fisheye round effect.

With LR corrections, you can make some super wide interior shots and get rid of the distortion (cropping the image a tad).

If you want to stick with canon glass then you basically have no choice but to pick up a 14L or a 10-22 and do the mod to make it work on the 1D (which I would avoid personally).
The 8-15 is a fisheye, not sure how well you can de-fish that lens after the fact... also pretty sure you cant de-fish it with LR4, I think you'd need to use a 3rd party software to do that.

I'm not a fan of the 10-22--well, I wouldn't say I'm not a fan but I looked at that when I bought my Tokina and I like the Tonina (overall) better although I understand the 10-22 is better with flare. Either way, I don't want to much around to make it work properly.

Thanks.

I love the 10-22mm on my 1D mark IV, it works great! The mod takes about 30 seconds to complete literally and is easily put back to stock with none ever to know about it.

but with the mod don't you have to be careful not to go to 10mm or risk having back of lens hit the mirror?

Check out this review, it shows some image samples at 14 and 15 mm.

You do need to lens correct of course.

I can't really use a fisheye for real estate photography.

Still in search of what I want to use. I still want to stick with Canon glass (not the 10-22). The 14mm L is nice but can't justify spending a couple of thousand bucks. :)

I'd like to keep it $1200 or less and that's stretching a bit more than I'd like. Just not sure of what my choices are. I don't know what others use for this.

Well, I don't think you have any more, with the limitations you've already listed.

I use the Sigma 12-24mm on both my 1D3 and 5D3
It's the widest FF rectilinear lens with autofocus available.

Yes thats true. I don't mind it since I just keep it at 12-22mm. For some people that is not acceptable. I've had the tokina and its a nice lens but I prefer the canon 10-22
