I don't think I've ever seen a male Red-bellied Woodpecker with this much red around the face. See what you think.

This is an excellent set and you sure caught every angle to show his colors. I took around 50 images recently of Red Bellies in my yard, as many as 4 at a time were within 30 feet. None of my shots show any red on the face itself and I don't recall having seen any marked like this one. Also like the color of the eyes you were able to capture in these shots, well done.

Great pictures. Is it possible it is discoloration from sap or something like that?
