Buying a Canon eos 1Ds (2003) thoughts?

Hi guys,

I've stumbled over a 1Ds with around 70.000 shuttercounts, mainly used in a studio and in very good condition. The seller wants (roughly converted) £190/$290 for it.
I got the 60D but i would like to introduce myself to FF.
The low ISO, shutterspeed and slow "read to card" seems to be the biggest concerns but other than that i got no problem with an older model since its FF and weathersealed.

Your thoughts?

Can't really help you decide, but I just bought one with 32K shutter accusations. I don't have it yet, but I know that I am going to love it. I paid $600. It was the backup camera for this guy and looks brand new.

That is a bargain, it is a great introduction to fullframe. It is not a fast camera or doesn't excel in dark conditions where high ISO is needed but use it within its limitations and the photographs from the 1ds are great

Will my Sigma 610 flash with TTL work on the 1Ds?
Can i use a 4GB CF card with x133?

I would definitely get it for that price, no question about it.

Same here. No hesitation, and I don't even need one.

That price is certainly right for the camera. And if it is just to get in to FF to see what the magic is all about before spending a lot more money, you can't find a better deal. Besides, you could probably sell it for double what you paid after you are done.

Last question..

Anything i should look out for when trying it?

And i got it..... holy cow it's a beast.
ISO are terrible and so is the TFT screen.. but other than taht it's amazing.

I don't consider any of the Canon screens to be worth much. Even my Mark III sucks in that regard. Sure, it's bigger but it's low resolution and blue.

get it! I still use mine in the studio some times. colours are awesome. Great ol'e Tank!

That's a great price on it...however, high ISO is crap (in fact, it won't even go above ISO 1250), it's a beast to lug around (with the battery it's 1,600g or nearly FOUR POUNDS!!), the screen is garbage, and the shoot-to-view time on those things is brutally long by today's standards.

I, personally, would probably add a few bucks and wait for a good deal on a 5Dc to come along. The 1Ds are amazing bodies, no question...but if you don't absolutely NEED weatherproofing and indestructible build quality, I don't think the bulk is worth it...

Getting a 5D kind of misses the point really.

Btw 'bent toe' already has it I assume by "And I got it".

Enjoy, like you have found out now it does have it's limitations, but it produces great images, also the batteries are great either. It was my first FF cam and loved it. I just made the natural progression after that to my current body
