It's all Flickr and 500px here, I never see 1x mentioned. Is there a particular reason for that? (just curious)

It gets mentioned, but it isn't a hosting site in the way Flickr etc, are. Many / most people on here won't be able to get images on it, certainly not in great numbers. The better photographers amongst us may have a couple of dozen images on it, maybe more, but you can't just upload stuff to post in forums and share with others, as you can with hosting sites.

Ok ok. I guess they must have changed their restrictions recently: if I understand it correctly, you can now upload any amount of stuff (I think it's limited if you have a free membership, but unlimited from the base subscription) and the selection now happens if you submit stuff for their contests or for review by the curators.

edit: cause I didn't have any pictures up there when they filtered them at the time of uploading, that's for sure! :D

I haven't submitted anything for a while, but I would assume that they still have a selection panel, which assesses the artistic value of a shot and decides if it is up to the standard of the site or not. They certainly used to be pretty picky about what was allowed on.

Unless they have radically changed their philosophy, they will only accept pictures which meet their (fairly stringent) criteria. They may well allow more to be uploaded, but that doesn't mean more will necessarily be accepted. I imagine they will also only expect people to submit their best work regardless. Try uploading 50 mundane, fairly similar shots (say, all from one shoot with a model) and you will probably get the lot bounced without much of a viewing, as they don't have the time to wade through such submissions. The process used to take a few days from submission to acceptance or rejection, sometimes longer if it was borderline and had to go to a revote, or be put to the membership for their views, before the judges made a final decision.
