goign to yosemite this weekend. going with my 5d3. taking my 16-35II, and 24 105. also going to take my 24 TS II lens and see if I can get some nice stiching. considering the 24 1.4 for some star shot.
However, dont know what to take for long shots. options are 70-200 f4 IS, 70-300L IS, or 100-400L. will be shooting landscape, but dont know if I am going to come across some wild life I like to shoot. the 70-200 is the lightest of the bunch, the 70-300 the most compact, and 100-400 the one with most reach, but slightly weeker image qaulity, and heaviest. appreciate some thoughts.

Wildlife on the weekend will be mostly of the two-legged variety... I've always had good luck running across bears at first light walking the bike path to Swinging Bridge behind Yosemite Lodge. If you're not comfortable around bears, but still want the shot, bring the 100-400. The 100-400 would also be useful if you are interested in photos of climbers. Check out the flanks of El Captain. I'd bring the 100-400 and the 70-200 and make your decision once you're in the valley. Not sure in the dogwoods are in bloom, but choose a lens with nice bokeh if they are.

I'm up here now, and the dogwoods in the Valley are in bloom. Choice of lenses depends a lot on your style. If you stay near your car you can sometimes use longer lenses to draw in some of the falls. If you prefer a lot of hiking, the long lenses get heavy fast. I've only used anything longer than 105mm a few times, and the 400mm hasn't been out of the trunk. You wont encounter many wild animals in the Valley, and only a few more up in Tuolumne Meadows. I spotted a Marmot over near Soda Springs today, but by the time I could get the lens changed he had found a good hiding place. There are some deer feeding up between Dog Lake and Lembert Dome, but didn't see any bears.

thanks. I think 100-400 is out. the 70-200 has very nice bokeh at 200. might take that given weight and general handling.
