This is my four year old grandson, who I was working with trying to get different expressions, he is awesome with expressions. This was shot with a 5D MK II and a 24-105 F4L at 105 focal length, at F4, 1/60, ISO 100 and 580 EX II Flash
What do you think?

try bouncing the flash into the ceiling instead of direct. was it your intention to kill majority of ambient light? If not, then you could have boosted the ISO up, decreased flash strength, to allow more ambient light in instead of having a really dark bg.

I'm not digging the expression - seems a bit unnatural, like he's really trying. :)

Thank you for looking and the comments, the lighting is exactly what I was desiring, and the expression was real, he is four years old -- looking at his grandmother holding a small ant farm for him to look at while I took this shot. I find working with children is fun, and expressions are so numerous and diverse. We only get to see him every few months - so I take a lot of photos :)

This kid is filled with so much drama (got it from his mother :) ) he is a blast just to watch, however, I guess every grandparent believes that.
