Ive read that it will remain a stand alone product and Ive read its gonna be subscription based.........Do we have a definitive answer yet ??

Read in a couple of places that Adobe might be rethinking and making a new subscription for LR and Basic PS and a lesser price........who the heck knows for sure on this

anyone know the real scoop

Thanks

LIghtroom will be included in CC ($50 / month). If you just get the single PS CC subscription ($20 / month) it does NOT include LR.

Lightroom will also still be available as a boxed product with the perpetual license.

Shortly after the backlash from photographers Adobe did say something about looking into creating a CC package just for photographers. No details on what it would include or if it will actually happen.

Lr5 will be available as both a perpetual license (how it is now) and as part of the CC package for subscribers.

Its hard for me to believe that Adobe is going to leave one product out of the forced CC subscription long term. I personally think that they will bring LR into the CC fold in the not too distant future. Nothing concrete to substantiate this other than Adobe's arrogance of shoving things down our throats.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

They also have elements outside of CC. Both of these products are consumer oriented so I can see them remain as such and have perpetual licenses. Adobe, and many others, look at PS as a professional tool, different class than Lightroom and elements.

Sure they'll remain, but in what condition? I can easily see them dumbing down Lr for non subscribers. They've already said that going forward there will be Lr features just for the subscribers. . . . . . . ..

Not to worry, those subscribers will lose those features as soon as they stop renting ;)

Can you please post Adobe official communications indicating they'll dumb down LR which is available outside of the subscription.

From my understanding, subscription based software is considered professional level by Adobe. Maybe Adobe is thinking of expanding Lightroom into a full fledged standalone professional photo editor, at which point it makes sense for them to put that version under the subscription model and releasing a consumer level into the perpectual model...sort of like elements and PS.

I have not seen anything official on this from Adobe. There is so much BS flying around right now, best to walk away for 6 months and see where things end up.

Personally, I think Adobe will expand elements somewhat, merry it up with Lightroom and that will be the consumer level photo editor platform that will be sold as standard software, outside the license model. Should work out fine.

I'm literally hitting the road in 5 minutes so I'm not going to look it up for you, but it was part of a post on Adobe's blog. He basically said there were some special things they were going to roll out in Lr for subscribers, giving the impression that there will be things added that won't find their way to perpetual versions.

here my take, lightroom still benefits consumers to upgrade at every release, unlike Photoshop which has suffered a fate of being so good for so long. people can get by using an version that is years old, how many still use cs2?

so when adobe released cs6 many balked at teh cost and stuck with cs5 since most didn't really need the new features, the many that upgraded were probably from pre cs5 and wanted the new features plus what cs5 had implemented.

adobe realizes this and wants to put everyone on subscription to maximize users using the latest edition while paying for it.

now adobe also realizes that many photogs use lightroom and photoshop and will be wise to offer both in a subscription model that is more cost effective to both. lost of people use lightroom mainly and only use photoshop to handle what LR cant. so it makes to offer only LR updates and let them continue to use an older version of PS to fit their needs.

i know lots of folks don't like this new model but its not like we don't have choices.

I assume many more amateurs buy LR, compared to say PS or any of the high level pro packages. Amateurs will not buy a subscription.

The only reason for amateurs to choose LR over any other cheaper product is the fact that it has better tools. "Dumb" it down and watch the sales drop. I am not saying Adobe is not dumb enough to do that.

Also, what exactly can you dumb down in LR ? Adjustment brushes, perhaps. Although without them, I may as well use manufacturer's native RAW processor + Gimp or PSP. Unlike a pro, I don't rely on my soft to make a living.

You and I are on the same wave length on this topic. The only way to stop Adobe is for folks like us to stop buying their products. I've never used Aperture, but if LR goes subscription, I will move to Apple. To me it's the principle of the thing.
