Took the family on a ski trip and stopped by Donner Lake to take some pictures.

Taken with the Tokina 12-24. Still learning about this lens. Comments welcome :D

Very nice shots, the color and composition are great. Donner Lake is beautiful place, and I sure do love living right next to it.

As I'm looking at this, I'm sitting in my hotel room in Reno watching it snow like crazy. I'd wager Donner Pass doesn't have that beautiful, blue sky right now.

Very nice shots.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

really nice pics!. I'm toying with the idea of getting a Tokina 12-24 in a couple of months and every pic I see taken with it seems to sway me closer to going ahead!!. Thanks for sharing these.

jump, thanks for the comments. This is the first time I stopped by Donner Lake eventhough I passed it about 10-15 times a year heading up the slopes.

belmondo, that's Sierra weather :). I took these last Sunday and on Saturday it dumped over 2 feet and on Monday it was gray and flurried. You'll have blue sky tomorrow. ;)

baldybaldstock, it's a great lens and I'm still learning the wide end of it. There are a few pics that my shadow showed up in the FOV. :D

Very nice shots! Reminds me of the old days. Used to live up on the pass at Soda Springs years ago. I have spent many hours traveling those mountains taking pictures. THe shots seemed neverending.
I'd recommend you do a crosscountry ski/camping trip sometime and get out and be amazed. Old highway 80 also has some great shots if you hike down to the old stagecoach trails after the road is opened again in spring.

Thanks for bringing back some very good memories.

dv2004, I didn't use a CP with these. I over exposed it 1 stop (+1EC) and played with curves to bring out the contrast. I also "localized" contrast by having USM set at around 30-35, 10-15 and 2.

I really love to get a CP and try it sometime. The pics I saw with it came out awesome.

Thanks

wu_wei0, the area around the lake is truely awesome. During the summer used to go 4-wheeling around Eagles Lake and the scenery was breath taking. It must be really cool to have this as your back yard everyday. :)

It was wonderful! Afraid there is nothing even close in Kansas. :(

Oh right,i saw the blue of the sky which was uneven in the frame and i presumed that you did,the CP has the same effect on very wide angle lenses,(i own the 12-24,what a great lens;)).
