Why would setting your WB to Shade when in shade give the images a greenish tint? Does it depend on the surroundings, say being in woods shade as opposed to shade from buildings?

idsurfer Cream of the Crop More info | May 16, 2013 08:55 | #2 Are you asking because you are just curious? I would think it would have to do with color cast from the surroundings. I see a lot of shots that have greenish tint that are shot in the shade under a tree. I can't imagine that you are not shooting RAW though. Auto WB works fantastic for me. Then I just make tiny adjustments to my taste in post. But of course you know this. Cory

May 16, 2013 09:00 | #3 Yeah I shoot in RAW and almost always shoot AWB but yesterday I thought I'd try using the Shade setting & it gave the images that greenish tinge, which is ok, since they're all that way I can correct in bridge but I was just surpised, I thought it would be a warmer tint not green, but I guess all the surroudning trees attributed to that. Does it depend on the surroundings, say being in woods shade as opposed to shade from buildings? Yes. All "shades" are not created equal. Some are caused by trees, but your camera doesn't know that that's where you are. Some from buildings & may be neutral or affected by the color of the building, or a blue sky. This is why we are able to use a Custom WB, or has been said, use RAW to tweak in PP. FrankC - 20D, RAW, Manual everything...
