I agree with Mr. McCann, too. Can't have all these hydrants around when we want to see performers.

Agreed. I have been doing more concert photography for a few local bands and having a forum specifically for such shots would be awesome. As was noted in other thread about breaking up the "Nature and Animals" forum, 'People' is pretty darn general.

Gotta' throw my hat into the ring on this, as well.

My primary focus area of photography is live bands. Sure, like everyone else, I shoot other stuff, but live music performance is my main gig.

I used to post in the "People" section, and then it was determined that the shots should go in the "Urban Life" section. Well, if I shoot a country band in some roadhouse off of I-40 somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Arisona, there's not a whole lot that's "urban" about it.

I've noticed, mainly since Dwight started posting more of his casino gig shots, that a lot more people are starting to share their work in this field. As has already been mentioned, it's definitely an area that's different than other types of photography.

So, yeah, I'd like to see a section dedicated to it...

Steve

Pekka, I think we are aware that whatever is appropriate will happen, it is just nice to continuously **** about it! :-) As I have said elsewhere on POTN, I expect that the moderators are overworked and underpaid and may have one or two other things going on in their life that take precedent. We wait, not patiently, but we wait.

Been on the road the last few days, and I've just now noticed that there's a Performing Arts section now.

EXCELLENT!

I've got some shots I'll be putting up this week from our trade show in Anaheim.

Thanks for the new section!

Steve

Though it delayed my starting on homework for an hour and a half last night, THANK YOU for making the section!

Well, the urban forum now gets a post or two every few hours since the split...

Everything else about the forum is great, but if this keeps up I'm going to need to find someplace else to share photos :( It's good performing arts gets their own section, but on the flipside of the coin the urban forum may now be dead.

Gee Whiz, Twitchy, are you suggesting that the only people who wanted to see your Urban work were the performing arts people? I don't think so but I am not surprised that there are lots fewer visits there now. However, we still have Mills, 4nR and many others who will post their images there ... it just won't be so busy. However, you are always welcome to comment on my Performing Arts threads and add a comment and link back over to any threads you create in Urban Living ... but that's about as fair as I can get.

Oh no Dwight, I wasn't implying the situation was in any way unfair or that things should be changed. If people are happy with things this way, by all means this is how it should be. As I recall though, there were comments from the urban photographers in the music threads, and vice versa, and I liked that setup. Other people didn't, and it is good that it is changed if that's what people want. My concerns don't seem echoed by anyone else so I truly do believe this is the right choice to have made. For what its worth though, I prefer a more active community and if I come across one in my travels, well that's that.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a "do this or I'm leaving", or a "this isn't fair" or whatever else it might be seen as other than my honest input, I only wanted to voice what I thought about this. Maybe its better for the community this way, and that's great, but in my estimation it's not better for what I'm looking for.

Of course, it may also be early to tell or make judgements on this, but I know that I started putting photos here exclusively because I enjoyed the level of activity in the forum and that same level has been noticeably lacking in the past few days.

No insinuations, implications, or requests for things to change back meant by my post.
