Went and checked on the Darter chicks today, can't get a great shot from across the river.
Their eating habits are a bit to be desired.

Both are still there, with their wings clipped I don't think they will be going away.
I believe they used to be but where shot by farmers in the 1800's to the point of extinction. They are hoping they will breed (but not high hopes) due to the wing clipping the male will find it hard to keep his balance;)
As for the Coot I can only assume some sort of vegetable matter?
