My wife and I each use a 5d mark ii to shoot weddings. Is there a way to sync them so that when we download all of the images from both cameras, they will fall in chronological order as they were taken?

If you sync the clock of both cameras, and import the images by using date time as file name, then you can easily sort them in chronological order.

Can I just manually set the clock in each camera, or do they each have to be connected to the computer as I read in an older similar thread?

On a 1DIII and older camera, you can do it manually in camera. I would assume the 5D2 would do that also.

You can do it manually on all of the modern ones as far as I'm aware... certainly all of the 5d and x0d bodies I've used. Just make sure you push the button at the same time on each one :)

You can do as suggested so that you can sort the images right after taking them out of the camera. However, as soon as you touch one for editing the time/date of the file is changed.

You may want to figure out how you could rename all of the files as your first order of business if you really need to keep them sorted in time order. I don't have any solution for this but I'm sure that a good programmer could write a routine to do it if there isn't a commercial program available.

You just go to the file explorer window, and right-click on the header columns, and add the "Date Taken" to your view. Then you can sort by when the picture was taken independently of the modified date. I would assume Macs have the same basic feature.

Following TeamSpeeds instructions, if you don't see the "Date Taken" field, click "more..." at the bottom of the list. At least with Windows XP the Date Taken field only seems to work on JPG files, no date appears for my RAW files.

[added info]

Researching the RAW situation, at least with respect to WinXP, the reason Date Taken is not popluated is apparently due to Windows Explorer not being able to read the EXIF data within a RAW image. Apparently you can view the information by downloading the Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer from Microsoft. Link is at

Yes, I forgot I had added that patch or add-on a couple of years back so that raw files can have their thumbnails rendered, more functionality accessible for raws, etc. Thank you for adding that additional info.
