Anyone here use it .. I like some of the features on it but not sure if I wanna try it or not .... I have recently purchased a 60d and will be using it primarily for outdoor photography ... and cons? Or better yet what features do you like on it?

Thanks

Steve

PS I did a search already and not a lot relate DIRECTLY to ML ... and most are burried so deep in the thread I cant find where it was mentioned!
Sorry if I missed a post and this has been hashed out before!

Couldn't live without it. ;) There is a magic Lantern specific thread as well. I'll see if I can find it for you as I'm subscribed.

I use the bulb timer and time lapse functions, as well as the LiveView histogram, focus peaking, in camera HDR reviews and a few other things.

I don't know if it is in that thread, but depending on what you use ML for it may well be worth downloading the nightly build. A lot has been added since the last 'stable' release.

To me its worth a least several hundred dollars if I had to pay for it - which reminds me I'm due my yearly donation.

Although the nightly builds are not guaranteed stable, they are usually OK. If there is a problem that stops something that was working from working properly it is usually fixed within a few days.

I update to a new build every few weeks and only once went back to a previous build while something I wanted was fixed. The developers are really pretty darn awesome.

Wile I have started using it for video, multi (more than 3) exposure bracketing and focus stacking are two things I use it most for. For macro it means I can take 50+ focus stack shots without dragging a computer with me.

Bulb timer is nice for super long exposures too - you can set a 2 min exposure for instance.

Tonnes of other stuff in there though.

Oh and RTFM before using it. There are a couple of things you should know - waiting a few seconds after opening the SC/CF card door before removing the card is the one that immediately springs to mind. Most people that have problems with it are self-inflicted - see the forum bug reports.

EDIT: looking at the thread I notice (and you'll probably see this on the ML forum) that most of the talk is on the 5DIII and 7D builds becasue these are still new and being worked on. I wouldn't get too wound up about people having issues with those builds. The unified build you will be using (as well as nightly builds) are much more stable. The guys have been working on the other cameras, including the 60D much longer.

I use it on my 50D so that it can do 1080p video. Of course an external recorder is required for audio (voice recorder, phone etc) and then the audio must be synced on the computer. Haven't really looked into it any further than that, though :D

There is a pre-Alpha version available with limited functions.

I downloaded it, and while I can't say I use it a lot, it's easy enough to disable or take back off completely. Some neat features for sure.

Freaking awesome firmware. I don't use it too often b/c it's on my T2i, but it really is great, and I used its features all the time before I got my 1D3. Still makes DSLR video much better, whenever I pick it up for that purpose.

I wonder whether they will get MFA for the 60D... all my lenses are spot on, but I always agonize every time I order a new one... :(

I'm using a nightly build(29th mar) for my 5D2 and it seems solid, the dot tune afma is excellent :)
