Figured I'd ask the Illuminati.
Have a 60D with 18-135 EF-S, 50 1.8 and 70-300 EF
and want to add an ultrawide like the 10-22 EF-S.
Or is there a better choice out there?
And why?
-Thanks in advance!

May 17, 2013 18:34 | #2 Canon 10-22, why? its a great lens for crop, also check the Tokina 11-16 and Sigma 10-20, all good lenses but if finances allow, go for the Canon 10-22 you wont be disappointed.

I will say that the Canon and Tokina IMHO are the best, Tokina wins out for f/2.8 and slightly better build quality. But as others have said here and in other threads, the Canon wins out for range, color rendition, USM focusing, and the best flare resistance of the lot. I chose the Tokina because on top of using it for wide perspective and landscapes, I find that the f/2.8 makes it a wonderful lens for video as well. Just a soul with a camera

I was originally going to get the Sigma 10-20 but the IQ just isn't up to par compared to some of the other UWA choices and the Tokina 12-24 and Tamron 10-24 aren't much cheaper (used, of course, I never buy new lenses). The Canon 10-22 is great but it goes for like $50 less than the 17-40 and if I were making that decision, I would just get the 17-40 because I know in the future I will get FF anyway. The Tokina does 2.8 though so if you are shooting at night (tripod or not) or inside a lot, definitely consider it. I just went with the Sigma 8-16 due to the fact is it soooooooo wide which to me can be lots of fun and the Tokina 11-16 just flares too much imho. Unfortunately the 8-16 cannot take screw in filters but pretty much the only time I will use a filter would be if I ever do some landscape shots where I could just hold a square filter in front of the lens or get something along the lines of the lee filter holding system. Overall though, the Canon 10-22 would be the best choice if you don't think you will go full frame any time soon and you won't regret it. It has a great range, great IQ, USM, great flare control and can take screw in filters. I am happy with Sigmas and their cost compared to the closest equivalents in Canons lineup( Social Security being the restriction. I have no Tokinas just due to no experience with them at all due to Sigmas coverage of the FLs I shoot with and satisfaction with Sigmas IQ. The Canon is the all around winner. My Flickr

Stang I'd love to know where you find the 10-22 for $500. Have dealer nearby at $650. At least there I can Inspect it and they have a good return policy. Now to find a deal on a 100 macro. Thanks for the help gang! Well all my prices are for used lenses (I think I stated that in the description) because I personally don't take interest in buying camera equipment new. I have regularly seen 10-22s go for $500 used. Even then I wouldn't feel comfortable paying that due to the 17-40 being about $50 more and the fact I would definitely get full frame if I got it and it could be used as a good walk around lens on APS-C (thought I will eventually get a Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS). For you however, if you don't plan on going full frame, the 10-22 is effectively the best choice unless you want to go REALLY wide of will be shooting in low light conditions a lot. Perhaps on eBay maybe, but remember that a fellow POTNer is likely to give you a better deal on one in excellent condition used. Just a soul with a camera
