Here are a few shots of various things in the garden and yard this morning.

Can you guess what this is?:

Here's a shot from further out:

I rescued this guy from the pool. He's resting on the edge of the pool skimmer I used to get him out of the water:

And finally, I found this insect crawling about. Anyone know what it is?:

Here's a side shot:

Is that its tongue/mouth parts it is sticking way out? Seems like more stuff than would fit inside that head.

Yeah, probably a Tritoxa incurva or similar, now that I know what to Google, image-wise.

Nice ones!

And thanks to both of you!

After posting the above, I was putting away some yard-work stuff when I saw this fellow hanging out on the side of a privacy wall:

Not sure what this is either. It always amazes me how many different types of "bugs" there are out there, if you just choose to look...

And after processing those pics, I sat down beside the pond for a beer and spotted this guy on a milkweed plant:

The Milkweed Bug, Oncopeltus fasciatus.

And people wonder whether I'm weird getting down completely flat on the ground taking extreme close-ups of insects and bugs...

Indeed they are. Volunteers from the bird feeder. I fully expect that just before the seeds fully ripen the flowers will get decimated by the squirrels and birds...which is fine, that's why we put out food for the critters.

This particular sunflower happened to be at my eye height - there are others growing much taller, and since they are on a raised bed (or I stand below the retaining wall, however you want to see it), this may be the only chance to get an easy shot with a tripod - they'll be a couple feet above my head before long.
