This appeared to be a rather easy task but now I am looking at dozens and dozens of camera's on ebay and local version in netherlands.......this is driving me a bit crazy.

I am now sorry as h3ll I sold my pristine 50D when I bought a 6D as that would have been a great camera for her to start her hobby.
Any way, am looking at second hand 50D's, have no interest in the Rebel series.

Should I get a 50D or 60D? I am a bit worried that the 60D does not have micro adjustment for lenses though. Budget would be about 500 euro ($650) for used camera body alone.

Need some advice what camera to get her? Used 50D or even new 60D or wait for the 70D(?) or anything else I am just overlooking?

Buy what you want and tell her it is for her to have. That way, you get a cool toy and the wife is happy because you were thinking of her. I tried this plan and it worked with a gently used 5d "for my wife" :)

Yeah Old Coot, thanks for the "evil" idea! I will go out and get me...uuuhhumm her a 5D3 and tell her "honey, I only want the best there is available for you", and "oohh would you like a 300mm F2.8 to go with that?" :D

With your budget, there are some nice cameras available. Since this purchase is for the wife, have you thought about one of the smaller body "Rebel" series?

Well, I mentioned that I was not interested in the Rebel series. However I am now wondering if buying the new Eos700 (Rebel T5i) is maybe a better option then a used 50D/60D? After all, it's the latest version of the Rebel compared to an already 4 year old model.

If you're going to consider the "Rebels" I suggest that you disregard the 700D and go with the 650D as there is hardly any difference in the camera and it will save you some money.
