We all have those "Almost" shots and the stories that go with them. I thought you guys might get a kick out of this story.
On Saturday, I got to the lake with my new 7D, ready to test it out. I immediately saw an osprey sailing through the air, looking for a meal. From a distance, I took some shots as he dove into the water and came out with a fish. He immediately flew along the shoreline away from me. I thought he landed, but couldn't see him from so far away.
I slowly drove down the road that parallels the shore, with my passenger side window rolled down scanning the waterline. When I got to the spot where I thought he might be, I pulled to the side of the road. When I finally gave up hope that i would find him, I turned my head and looked out my windshield. Straight in front of me, about 20 feet away, this is what I saw...
Knowing that this wouldn't last long, I pointed my 100-400 at him straight through the windshield and took 3 shots of him before he flew off.
We all know the 100-400 doesn't do well with filters. I can confirm that a dirty windshield doesn't help either.
This was shot at 380mm and isn't cropped. Oh, and since we're on the subject of missed shots, guess what he's sitting on? It's a "No Fishing" sign.
