Never shot bird before. Got a shot of a pair of Cardinals on the feeder outside the back door. Shot through the glass with a 300mm.

I would like to do some more of this but I am pretty sure I will need to invest in a 1.4x or maybe even a 2x so I don't scare everything away.

It's easy to get hooked! Just ask me, I know. I got bit by the bird photography bug last November.
Nice shots. The female looks a little rough. Must be she lost a few feathers on her head?

SJC from VT, I think I may have found something else to occupy me when I am not shooting drag racing. lol That female looks a little rough. There are two "couples" that frequent the feeder. The other one is a little better looking but she showed up after I had put the camera away.

We actually have quite a few different birds that show up. Tufted Titmouse, Woodpeckers, Doves, some black birds and various finches. I will try to capture some more soon. I love the little Tufted Titmouse, neat looking little bird.

Nice shots! You're good at this, keep shooting. Do yourself a favor and get a 1.4X II it works great on the 300mm, there's nothing quite like hand holding 420mm at 5+ feet. You won't be disappointed. You can get some good shots at the track with it too!

SJ is right Tom, you're going to get hooked in a hurry!
You've got great subjects to start with and did a fine job rendering colors. Keep at it and we'll love to see more from you.

Thank you all very much!

I have been reading through the Bird Talk portion of the forum since I posted here. I am getting the itch to shoot more birds already! lol

My wife and I are going to Asheville, NC this weekend. I am hoping that I can take some time to shoot around Biltmore Estate. I am hoping to find some nice specimens there.

I plan on renting a 1.4x soon to check it out. Maybe before I leave for the weekend depending on how much it costs to get it here in time.

Uh, oh... now you did it. Prepare to mortgage your kids to buy that 500mm lens and 1Dx.
