I have this image of the Dalton Gang enclave in the mountains of southern CO that I want to print, it was taken years ago and cannot be retaken, and it does hold sentimental value.
Does anyone have any suggestions at all concerning PP of this image as I'm truly at a loss. Am reasonably adapt at CS6.

This represents but one of my many attempts....

Assorted thoughts:
- there's a blue hue to the log in the front plane, maybe warm it up some and bring out the texture by bumping up contrast/clarity.
- perhaps add some slight vignetting as my eye is drawn to the bright blue sky even though there's not much to look at there.
- there seems to be a light ray of sorts in the top left, or it might be flare. I'd either bring it out and own it, or remove it completely.
Hope that helps!

I see you already did a BW of it .Maybe just be thankful you got a chance to get some pictures of history past. And what remains now. I like it i would try to bring some of the wood tones out in it more sharpen it and i would do a nice big Canvas of it. I am a big time rookie at all this digital stuff.I go out to shoot something i know there's a picture there but when i get home can't seem to find it or something is missing from it and just can't put my finger on how to fix it or make it better than what it is.But what i truly see in your is one of the gang out there havein a smoke and the horses tied up over yonder just past the small campfire as i am passing by on my horse. But that is me :)

I think the shadows are a bit dark. And just a slight boost of clarity on the log and cabin would be nice. And I'd like it to be warmer. But these are all personal preferences, there's nothing wrong with it.

I hope you don't mind my attempt at editing.

This is the image with only basic LR work-up. I do not mind you'll having a go at it. ;)

The lens flare and blue hue on the logs are all fixable, but, I just wanted to turn it into something more than just a photograph...what that might be, I don't know.

Here's a shot - nothing to super duper. The image has a very deep DOF and the tones are all sort of the same, except where the light hits edges, etc. There is a LOT of green and brown, and everything sort of runs together visually. The fence in the foreground is a nice element that has an interesting texture and the tuft of grass that is camera right has a nice glow to it from the direct sunlight.

I made the foreground the focus and mocked up a lens blur to separate these foreground from the background. The hideout is still visually intact, just separated. I dodged the fence and the front of the cabin, added some local contrast and a vignette. I tried to preserve the overall tonality of your original, which is a little on the darkish side.

I used the same alpha channel for the lens blur to desaturate the background, leaving the foreground color saturated. I wasn't sure whether to neutralize the greenish tint on the fence (which could be from light bouncing off of the surrounding foliage) or leave it, so I left it.

Tough image, visually.
