I just got a 17-40, so I shot my dogs.

up until now, the widest lens i've had is a 28-135, so when I got my new-to-me 17-40 I had to go play with it at 17mm and wide open. These were just playing around on my back porch, but am fairly pleased with how they came out. the dogs were pretty nervous because a big storm cell was coming in, also.

Cute pups! The first pup does look a bit worried, or was it just the camera in his/ her face ..

for some reason, she really doesn't like a camera pointed at her, almost like she can sense it. I thought it might be the USM focus acting almost like a high-frequency dog whistle, but she acted the same when i switched to manual focus. i'll just chalk it up to the storm coming in, she's the one that has learned to open doors when she's scared of thunder and gouged the hell out of our back door when we locked it.

The first picture reminds me of the dog in "UP" for some reason.. maybe it's just the angle! lol

yeah, me too! i think it's the eyes and the tongue.
