RRS vs Markins plates for 6D

Look for a plate for a 6D. RRS & Markins are both the same price. Is one better than the next? Will be going on a Acratech Ballhead.

RRS are the gold standard for plates and will yield a higher resale value than anyone making similar products. Neither will let you down.

Also check out kirk plates, i have been using kirk plates for years and am very pleased withthe quality

I am a fan of Kirk plates also. They design their L-brackets to attach to the neck strap lug as well as the tripod socket whenever possible.

Caution on lever clamps only, screw clamps are no problem for mix and match.

I find it interesting that the PN-600 plate from Markins fits both the 6D and Nikon D600. I thought the 6D was much smaller than the Nikon.

If RRS is an option, RRS is the answer.

I'd get the RRS plate it will be fine with an Acratech clamp.

The RRS B2 AS II lever clamp auto-adjusts to any A-S type plate.

For any body that will sit on an arca compatible clamp, get a L plate....not a flat one. The RRS plates, clamps, and ball heads are truly excellent kit.

Partial to RRS whenever possible myself. Their plates are excellent!

Use Kirk and RRS L-brackets and Camera Plates. Kirk lens plates, and Markins Ball Heads with their screw clamps. (Q3T, Q10, and Q20)

I use Kirk, Markins, and Wimberley plates and have never had any issues on my Markins head.

I have the RRS L-Plate on my 6D. You can't go wrong with that one.

Update: I sold the 6D and RRS L Plate, then later purchased a Sunwayfoto plate for another 6D and it fits/works great with my Markins ballhead and clamp.

Many of them will fit other models.

I'm using a body plate from a 1DMKII on the 5D3 with grip now. I also used the same one on the 1D3 before.

I just need to flip it around and it fit.

Anybody thinking of 3rd party "L" plates with any lever release clamp should probably stick with the same manufacturer as the clamp. I have 3 Arca Swiss Flip-Lock clamps and just bought 2 Kirk "L" Plates & 2 Kirk foot Plates with mixed sizes. I had to shim the bottom of the 70-200 foot plate slide smoothly when half locked & tight when fully locked without adjusting the clamp in between changes. My 1Ds MK III Kirk "L" plates is fine as is my 4.25" Henjar plate but my 7D Kirk "L" Plate is loose when in portrait but tight when in landscape & portrait side binds half way then becomes loose again. Kirks answer to my email was:"There is some tolerance with the machine. Not much, but when using the lever type it is more noticeable. You can return your order for a complete refund if you are not happy with the fit." I went with the Kirk because they are lighter than the RRS (1DS MK III Kirk "L" Plates is nearly half the weight of the RRS "L" Plate) & looked like a nicer design but their machining tolerances are allover the place. I don't own any RRS gear at the moment, but will be dumping the 7D Kirk "L" Plate on ebay (Don't want to waste more money on postage, Australia to USA) & purchase a RRS 7D "L" Plate & hope it is the same size as the Kirk & Henjar plates that I already have. Point is if you mix manufacturers with lever QR clamps it is pot luck & you could loose the advantage of the lever QR clamp. Sorry for the long one, just don't want anybody else getting caught & throwing money down the drain on poorly made plates.
