Just thought I'd share a few of the flying critters I've come across in the last while.

Central Florida and the Kissimmee Prairie offer quite a few 'fun' critters to see, birds included of course.

Eastern Meadowlark

Crested Caracara with a Rough Green snake. These guys were picking snakes off all day.

..and feeding its young something scaleless.

These Burrowing Owls are always fun to see

Two Barred Owls have been spending time in our yard lately. Every weekend morning they're out there hunting.. this guy apparently needed some rays.

Totally beautiful set, Mike! The Caracara shots are outstanding. I intend to find some this winter when I come down to SW Florida, hopefully will have better luck than last winter!

It is a beautiful set. Feel bad about the snake but everything has to eat.

Lotsa beauties you have here Mike.
I'm surprised you found a Meadowlark with it's beak closed :) That does not seem to be the norm with these raucous birds.
The feeding Caracara images are really neat, especially with young; and a very pretty tom to boot.
Love the owls, and would love to capture a burrower myself someday. They just have the cutest faces as shown so nicely in the portrait you captured.
Excellent series!

Thank you everybody for the kind words.

Wallce, if you're able to get to central Florida and to Kissimmee Prairie State Park, that's where these were taken. They're also south around the same area down to the big lake. They're used to some steady vehicle travel so they tend to give you a bit of a chance to get some photos before they scatter.

Cam, I most definitely got more of them without the golden silence. Usually by the time you see them they've already started in on their chanting. Also, that was my first Burrower ever. We drove all day back and forth and finally as it got into the evening we spotted this guy/gal. Needless to say it was quite exciting.

Thanks again,

Mike
