I love this lens, and want it on my 5D3 forever. But I need to carry two cameras, so I need a bag that lets me leave both assembled and everything fits. I'm using a Tamrac Evolution 9 now, and it all goes in there until I need to put the Spider Holster setup on the cameras and the belt in the bag - it just doesn't all fit.

Anyone have a better solution:

5D3/400mm f5.6
5d3/24mm f1.4
Flash
50mm f1.2
other utensils/batteries/dunnage/etc.

Think Tank Street Walker Hard Drive (external link)

I have it set up to carry my gripped 6D with the 400 5.6 mounted, my gripped 7D with the 70-300L mounted, several other lenses, my flash, my Sidekick, filters, TCs, extensions, the usual cards, and my 15" MacBook Pro. It weighs a ton when fully loaded, but it does hold everything I need. It's even pretty comfortable to carry using both straps, although I usually just hang it over one shoulder for short trips.

Oh yeah, I have a double RS strap that fits in as well.

NOTE: I don't generally use hoods, so the only one in there is the built-in hood on the 400 5.6.

My Lowepro 400AW fits it perfectly... Along with 3-4 other lenses and such.

OK, thanks guys, I'll have a look. While you were responding, I discovered the ThinkTank Airport Accelerator http://www.thinktankphoto.com …/airport-accelerator.aspx (external link) but that thing looks pretty big and pretty spendy. Might have to peek at one though.

I'll take a look at the two you guys recommended...

The Lowepro 500AW Flipside is designed specifically for what you want to do. It's also slightly cheaper than the 400AW, I believe.

Get a bag bigger than you think you'll need... you'll fill it eventually. Here's a shot of my Lowepro Pro Trekker 400 AW. Two bodies, 400mm f/5.6, 70-200 f/2.8, 1.4x, 50mm, 18-55mm, and a ton of gizmos and doodads.

What I want to do is put the cameras away without taking the lenses off. That makes it much more difficult, I know, but I hate letting all of that pollen and dust flow into my camera if I can avoid it. I'm doing it now with the bag I have, but the 400mm f5.6 barely fits and I'm afraid I could damage the camera if I'm not real careful.

I feel there is no real issue is you still have the camera's front cap. No need to rush taken the lens off and putting on caps.

The AW400 should work fine keeping the 400 on the camera as the dividers are adjustable.

Here in Washington, right around this time, the pollen is so thick that you have to wash your car daily if you want a shiny finish. That stuff is sticky too - the instant you pull the lens off, it rushes in there and gets on the sensor. I try to keep lens changes to a minimum, and if I am not changing, they stay right where they are. If I was willing to yank the bodies off after every session, there are thousands of bags and backpacks that would work great. That's why I asked here - I want to be different from how all the bags are designed...

Any chance you could post a quick pic of this set up? I would be curious to see how you have it configured. I've been debating this bag (and lens actually) as well. Thanks!

Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW is what I've been using the last few years. It's designed to hold two cameras with lenses attached. In the past I had a 1D2/17-40L on one side and a 1D2/300mm f/4L IS on the other. They fit quite nicely. The rain cover and tripod mounts are great too. I use both constantly while out hiking.

Wow, I've looked at dozens - thanks for all of the recommendations. I'm going to have to go up to the local pro shop and eyeball these for a final idea, but my search tells me I'm going to be looking at the Thinktank products very closely. The Airport Accelerator has the most convincing imagery on their web site: http://www.thinktankphoto.com …/airport-accelerator.aspx (external link) - check this:

Well I went down and looked at that bag, and it is really a lot bigger than I wanted. I guess I'm going to have to design my own if I want to get what I feel I need....
