Located south of Coober Pedy and only 1 kilometre from the mine where I work which takes it's name sake from this unusual formation. It forms part of the Breakaway Ranges north and south of Coober Pedy, South Australia and is probably lesser known than the 'Breakaway Range' further north where scenes from Mad Max Beyond Thunder Dome were filmed. Fortunately being surrounded by defence land and mining leases means access is very restricted allowing me easy access to the surrounding area. These formations are left after they have broken away (more like the surrounding area has been eroded) and are capped with the original surface. The land around them forms part of the channel country where the big desert rains eroded them away further and flow out through channels to the salt lakes beyond. Canon 7D, Sigma EX DG 10-20mm, f18, ISO250, 1 second, tripod.

Beautiful picture, even though the terrain looks a bit barren and lonely.
