This little Downy Woodpecker let me follow him for quite some time. He got so used to my presence that I was able to basically feed along with him lol. . .he ate more ants than you could even imagine from these dried up Button Bushes along side a small creek.

Hope you enjoy this series! these were taken in very low light conditions so I apologize for the darker quality to some of the photos. I was so excited about taking his picture I never thought to use a flash, although since it would have limited me to 1/250 shutter speed it would not have captured him as well since he was so FAST!

I'm going to try to post a video too (if you watch it close you can see him grab an ant that was crawling on his belly...it quickly became a snack)

Check out one of his handy work holes in the background :)

Look very close and you can see him pulling the ant out of the hole!

This was at 4000 ISO! Had to bump the shutter to 1/2000 to catch his tongue in action

Exceptional quality captures of one of my favorite little woodies Michael!
I was expecting a Pileated by your title, but this little guy certainly fit the bill too.
Love the action shots and your portraiture is spot on. Wonderful job!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I wish the video would have worked, but I'm not quite sure how to do that.
