Not sure of this one, it is about 2mm body length (and this was the larger of the two specimens).

It likes to walk, and does not slow down for the camera.

I'd say it's a pseudoscorpion (aka false scorpion) of some description, going by the size and the claws. Which one though I have no idea, there are over 1500 species of them.

I was thinking along the lines of a pseudoscorpion, (also known as a false scorpion or book scorpion), is an arachnid belonging to the order Pseudoscorpionida, also known as Pseudoscorpiones or Chelonethida.

Paul.

Thank you all, much appreciated.

I went back out to get better shots, and there was this other couple of tiny bugs and a few springtails. There is nearly as much life on the mat as there is in the garden.

So in the theme of what is it, any help appreciated with this new one to me..

These are very nice shots, Bas. Have never seen these little critters before. I like your interesting mat! :)

Great shots and clarity Bas, these guys look real small, I wouldn't want to meet a big one, they look mean little critters!

Agree- first bug is a pseudoscorpion
Think the last bug must be springtail but looks rather odd- perhaps it's shedding it's skin

Thanks again all. Ok only one new species then

The head on that last one is really bent down. Unfortunately I didn't manage any great shots (another one that enjoys a brisk walk).
