Yes, canon working on faveon sensor. Now canon has been working on 3 layer Foveon sensor technology , However, the fact they continue to spend resources on it, tells us favenon sensor is definitely a good application for the technology.

Canon are involved in almost everything with imaging capabilities. So of course they are interested in the available technologies. That doesn't mean that they will actually productify their research. Or that any DSLR will get the fruits. 5DMk2 + BG-E6 | 40D + BG-E2N | 350D + BG-E3 + RC-1 | Elan 7E | Minolta Dimage 7U | (Gear thread)

It's unlikely that Canon will switch to the Foveon technology because others already hold significant patents which they would then have to license. However, if they develop their own patentable improvements, they can block Sigma from improving their Foveon or force them into licensing the technology from Canon. I'm guessing we will never see this technology from Canon. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I'm guessing we will never see this technology from Canon. I wouldn't say never. But it wouldn't surprise me if any big advancements from Canon aren't released for another decade or so. (The base patents for the technology are actually surprisingly old, but it would take way more time to weed through patents to be sure when Canon will be free and clear to infringe on the expired ones they would need.)
