I was thinking about going because I'm dying to try out my new(to me) 300 f2.8 on motorsports but I'm also waiting for delivery(tomorrow) of the body it will live on. I like to spend some time getting use to the menus and controls before taking it on the field. I'm still debating but I doubt it.
As for your dust pump in the dust, I never had issues with my 50-500(although called the Bigma it's also a dust pump) shooting MX, but these 4 wheelers will likely be kicking up a lot more dust. If you're not zooming a lot and try to only change zoom when dust levels are low you should be fine, in other words find a focal length that works in the spot your shooting and use it like a prime.
