I'll be picking up a 17-40 this Summer and wonder if any of you have used the EW-83J (crop hood) with an APS-H 1.3 sensor camera. How much vignetting occurs? Just curious...

msowsun "approx 8mm" More info | May 24, 2013 16:22 | #2 Yes, you can use the EW-83J on a 1.3 crop camera like the 1D. This link shows which lens each hood it meant to be used on: http://www.lensplay.com/lenses/lens_hoods1.html And just to add to the confusion, there is now a EW-83L for the new 24-70 4.0 IS which may be useful on some other lenses as well. joeseph "smells like turd" More info | May 25, 2013 00:20 | #3 I got an EW-83J for use on my 16-35mm Mk I, and it's just a tad too much hood with 1D2&3 - plan to remove a bit of material from it next time I'm in the workshop mood. some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I very seldom use my 16-35L II hood because it is useless against flare. if I know I am going to be walking around with that lens then i'll use the hood for bump protection because that's all that it is good for. http://instagram.com/edraderphotography/
