has anyone renewed their CPS Gold membership recently? if so, did you get a "welcome kit" and what was in it?

i'm hearing rumors that if you renew within the same level, you no longer get any "goodies". the only way to receive any goodies is to renew to a higher level.

I believe renewals are sent a gift at the year end holidays or the new year now... not upon renewal if it occurs at other times of year.

I've been a gold member for a number of years and that's the way I've been receiving the "goodies" the last couple years. I'm not expecting anything upon renewal (which happened to be this month). A couple months ago I got the same memory card case someone else mentioned.

I was waiting on/hoping for the calendar or daytimer they've been sending for some years in a row... It was always handy to keep in my car, to record business mileage and other expenses along the road. But apparently CPS aren't sending those any longer. I had to go out and buy one this year.

I'm not really complaining, though. The memory card case is nice and will be useful... The straps they've sent other times are also an excellent upgrade (they happend to be the same OpTech that I've been buying myself for many years now... can't use the "standard" Canon supplied strap, it pinches nerves in my shoulder or neck and causes back problems).

I just got a Canon "fanny pack" from another source, with a big logo on it... So I'm starting to feel a bit like a Canon billboard!

Thanks to CPS I've got a nice stock of rear lens and body caps. And several copies of "Lens Work", which is a good reference to have, tho it gets dated every time they launch a new lens (but only if I buy the new lens, I suppose).

I didn't join CPS for the goodies, anyway... they are just a nice bonus.

just renewed, no goodies this year, not even lens caps. :( i did get a smaller goodie bag last year, which only included a small Think Tank bag and memory pouch. I remember when they used to give big Think Tank backpacks, or even a 600mm Think Tank case one year. long gone are those days I guess..

Ok... So... I've been a CPS Gold member a several years now... The first three years I was sent a 'Welcome' package... After that, nothing... Just an email notification to renew my yearly membership; which I gladly did... This year, I forgot to renew prior to the expiration date and my membership lapsed a few days... So I went into my account last Sunday and renewed/updated my Gold CPS status... I get an email this past Tuesday confirming my 1 year renewal and that there is a 'Welcome' package being sent to me... According to Fedex, the package should arrive sometime today...

I'll let ya know, John, if it's the usual stuff (strap, book, caps, CPS pin, and free cleaning coupons)...

:D

I renewed and never got the stuff they sent me. They sent it Fedex and wouldn't allow the driver to leave it even with the slip signed. I had to be there for him to see me sign it. Idiotic. I had just started a new job, so I couldn't take time off to wait for the driver. The nearest Fedex place is 31 miles away, so driving there after work was out. After three attempts, they sent it back to Canon. I called Canon and they said they'd send out another kit and change the sig requirement so I could just sign the door slip. They never sent it, though.

I signed up at Silver level on the UK site and never got a package, just the card holder and cloth. My renewal is due in December and I've gone up to Gold level now so I'm waiting to see what happens. It's free to register in the UK though but I know it costs in some countries so I doubt I'll get a high value item anyway. I keep seeing the CPS bits in the classifieds and I've toyed with the idea of buying some of it but haven't so far.

I just renewed my Gold membership, and received the same. oh well. The pin/caps/etc do not improve my photography. The service I have received from CPS NJ has been worth the money.

Silver = no cost, but no goodies either
Gold = some small goodies, once a year... but there's a fee
Platinum = more goodies, once a year... there's a much bigger fee

Again, there are no "goodies" sent at time of renewal now... They are sent out annually, toward the end of the year or beginning of the next.

ISTR it was January this year when I received a nice CPS (Think Tank) memory card case.

Makes sense to me, to handle it that way... more efficient. Otherwise it would be a full time job throughout the year just sending out "free goodies" at the various times when people renew.

Just last month I renewed again (at the Gold level, since the beginning of the program) and fairly quickly received the "paperwork"... Labels and cleaning coupons, a nice thank you letter, and such. I don't expect any goodies until the end or the year or start of 2014.

This year they didn't send me a calendar and I had to go out and buy one, dammit! I really liked my Canon CPS calendar/daytimer, to keep in my car to record mileage and other business expenses. They were sending those calendars for several years in a row, so I wasn't having to buy one!

Not looking a gift horse in the mouth, though. The memory card case is nice.

So are the OpTech straps they've sent other years. I use a couple of those (please send more, Canon!)

OTOH, I have more copies of "Lens Work" than I need. Plenty of rear lens/body caps, too. And I have yet to figure out what to stick with the CPS hat pins I've received over the years. Anyone want to buy a book or pin?

Oh, at my favorite local secondhand store, I just picked up a Canon EOS belt pack that might have been a gift for CPS or something else at some time. It accomodates one large lens (70-200/2.8 or 300/4, say) or a couple shorter ones. Looks like a modular lens case or two could be hung on it, too. Pretty nice.
