So I figured this forum need an advice section since so many people post this question.
Attached is my friends 28mm that decided to not stop, drop, and then rolled off his desk from his lens shelf. I say no, he says yes.

So he wants to know, is it worth repairing/can be repaired? Or is it worth seeing if it will blend?

I'd guess canon would quote $200 or so to fix it...or he could sell it on ebay for $100...either way, I wouldn't blend it...it's still worth money even if he chooses not to send it in...

you may think it's weird to say, but i don't even think it looks that bad...i mean, it looks like it broke along a spot that is definitely repairable...if the whole outer case was cracked through, i'd say blend...

either way, i'd say it's definitely worth the $15 to see how much canon would charge

I think I finally convinced him to just send it in and see what can happen. He also has a 85mm that the AF motor has gone out.

Sell it AS-IS on eBay. Lots of people like to tinker.

If you don't fix it, then sell it to someone who can fix it or repurpose the materials for other projects. Personally I would love to have a box of random glass lenses to play with.

Sometimes these things cost a lot less to fix than one would expect since often the damage is limited to one small part however I think Canon here has gone to a fixed labour fee per item that sometimes makes it not worth it to send it to them. Call Canon first but if the labour is too high, then take it to a local canon authorized repair shop who will probably fix it for actual time plus materials and provide an estimate.

Oh, OK! Thanks.

I can't see doing that to a perfectly good blender. Nor an object I could rip apart to possibly use parts. But I guess that is just me.

Agreed. At worst there are useful and salable spare parts there.
