buffumjr Member  168 posts Joined May 2013 More info | May 26, 2013 07:25 | #1 Has anyone, particularly electronics enthusiasts, kludged together a device for reading the EM pulse from the flash strobe and emulating the hot shoe signal in a hot shoe attached to the outside of the camera? This would allow a camera NOT equipped with a hot shoe to have one, and take advantage of all the accessories that are hot shoe driven. elv Goldmember 1,491 posts Likes: 181 Joined Jul 2006 More info | Most of the manual flashes you were looking at already have an optic slave built in. They have S1 and S2 mode, the S2 ignoring the pre-flash from cameras that don't have a manual power option (TTL only). So your compact cameras in built flash will trigger them.

Will check the reviews more closely for range, reliability, etc. Good to read ALL the reviews, not just the 5 stars. Found out the YN-460 is "run away!", but the 560 is well thot of.
