The first two are the male red-winged blackbird, and I believe the others are the female red-winged blackbird.

I would say first two are male Red Winged Black Bird, last two, female Red Winged Black Bird. Good shooting BTW, really like number 3. These birds seem to be difficult for me to shoot.

I agree. I love it when they fly and the reds are showing.

Yes, red winged black birds. Funny story, my ex wife asked me one day, hey Tom, what are those red winged black birds called? I said yes. : )

Thanks for pointing out the Red Winged Blackbirds. Here are two more - sorry about asking but my bird book is at home 500km away and I won't get to it for another week or two.

First is a male goldfinch in its summer garb. May hear them called "wild canaries" by the uninformed. Second looks like a purple finch possibly but there are better IDers here to confirm or correct. Always help to know where the shots were taken

Shots were taken in Eastern Ontario, close to a large marsh/bog. I was walking a nature trail and when I came into an opening the last two birds where there. The Red Wing Blackbirds are all over this area, and I have seen them in southern Ontario as well, as far south as Niagra Falls. There seemed to be two pairs of the Blackbirds nesting within a 1.6 km radius, they like to sit on top of the reeds and stay close to the marsh/water.

Thanks for the help :)
