I have an older version of DPP (which came with my 40D camera) on a notebook computer running Microsoft Vista. Ihave not used this computer since I downloaded my images from China on my 2010 trip to that country.

I am traveling again and plan to use the notebook computer with DPP to download Raw images which I will shoot with my 7D cameras. I realize that the older vewrsion of DPP will probably not be compatible with the RAW files from my 7D.

Is the best idea to delete the previous edition of DPP from my computer and load the newer edition that I received with my 7D. Or could I just upgrade the DPP from the Canon website?

Additionally, I don't want to edit or post process my images but I do want to see the images so I can tell if a problem with camera or lens has developed.

On my trip to China, I shot JPEG + RAW but, don't intend to shot JPEG on this trip. I do want to be able to ake a cursory view of my RAW images...

You should not delete the old version since the updater looks for an installed copy.

I would get the newest version from the website and install that over your current installation.

In all the cases where I did this updating, the process has worked perfectly, so I would not anticipate any problem ...

It's worth getting the newest version so the benefits of DLO, HDR, etc. are available ...
