Brodsworth Hall is a stately home and gardens near where we live (Barnsley) and this week have a lot of activities based on when the war came to Brodsworth. Basically the Home Guard, and many others came and camped in the grounds, on the lawns and in the fields surrounding.
So this weekend they have had re-enactment groups and various exhibits to show what it might have been ,ike.

Here are a few photos, mostly edited in mono, as colour didn't seem right.

And the last, my favourite of course, is TinyTogger sporting the latest in wartime fashion, the Tin Hat. :)

I agree, the child's portrait is the best shot. Nicely done given that the tin hat would have thrown her face in shade in the harsh sunlight of the setting.

The observation post shot is well-composed, with the subject looking into the center of the photo. A couple of the others would have done better if you used this approach on them. You have a center composition on them with the subject looking out the edge of the photo. That's less interesting because you don't let the viewer know just what it is that attracted their attention.

If you were looking for an old-time feel with the black and white treatment, the razor sharp resolution of digital is working against you. You might try to soften them a little, even though I know this goes against the urge to maximize resolution. Ditto for the harsh contrast. If you upped it, you might try backing it off a little. Try a slight sepia tone instead of pure black and white, again, in order to suggest age.

Agree with Joe - high contrast and sharpness don.t work...and the girl shot is super...here is an example of more range/less contrast and straight verticals. I resisted doing any old timey effects.

Yes, seems to be a common complaint. I will have another look at the processing for these...It IS exactly as I wanted them, so I will not be deleting these, but will certainly have a go at making them more palatable for others. :)

Cheers
