Made my mind up to go 600EX RT's , then along came a good deal on more Bowens 500Rs.
So I need to save some of the budget earmarked for the 600's.

If I went with the 560III, I understand the 7D's on-board flash will trigger the YN 560III.

The question is will the pre focus assist beam [the blitzing effect] prematurely trigger the YN 560 III. or does setting S2 stop that happening. Similarly could the YN 560 III handle me running the existing 430 Mk II in ETTL mode OCF, and the focus assist beam. i.e. will S2 handle that?

Likewise can I use the YN 568 with the 7 D? does it work just like the 430 EX II
[I.e. optically fired , HSS, ETTL2, Manual and remotely controlled from the camera?
Similarly will the focus assist beam screw up the YN's

OR
Temporarily, would I be better of just getting another one 430 EX II to match the current one; and bear with the optical triggers. Could always use YN 622s if it was unbearable.
Then I get HSS, ETTL control setting from the camera, and they say the guide no. is in reality just a tiny bit less than the YN 568! Only draw back on the 430 is Optical Line of sight

Long term is to get 2 x 600 EX RT's plus the ST-E 3 Mk II when the idiots realise we need a focus a assist beam on the trigger.

Until you get a camera that takes full advantage of the 600EX-RT capabilities you can get by just fine with YN-622 triggers and compatible speedlites. Personally, I'd be inclined to get YN ETTL capable speedlites.

Thanks, I was thinking that re the price of 430 EX II @ £200 and the YN 568EX @ £127.
Shame it does not have the built in 622 recievers

There's been some argument over whether the S2 mode will work if using another ETTL flash off camera. It works fine with an ETTL flash on camera as the trigger, the argument is over the added pre-flash with more off camera flashes.

(pre-flash is not related to focus assist by the way).

But I agree, YN-622C are the solution if you want HSS or ETTL. Either YN-568EX or 430EX II will do the job quite similar. If its just remote power control your after the YN-560 III will very likely do that a little down the track (when a new TX arrives) - http://flashhavoc.com/yongnuo-yn-560-iii-review/ (external link)

Thanks for the info, do you think the pre-focus assist strobing flash would fire off the Yongnuo's if triggered optically?

A) - its not pre-focus, its pre-flash. Nothing to do with focus! :-)

B) - As mentioned there is some argument over that, in most cases it should be fine. Personally I don't think its worth the hassle, but it may get you by until you can get some YN-622C.

Hi
Now I am really confused.
I thought there were 2 sorts of pre-flash (by that I count any flash before the one that actually goes off when the image is taken) on the 7D.
The first sort of flash is the ETTL2 comms between the 7D acting as a master controller. The Bowens self learning mode counts 4 flashes.
Then there is the second type of pre-flash. This looks like a strobe blitzing, and its part of the low light, focus assisting illumination to help you focus. If you turn of Focus assist in Cn F. This stops the Bowens self learning mode, it drops from 5 pre-flashes to 4 .
I am worried if I have these on will they fire the YN - 460III or the 568Ex prematurely.?

Any clarification appreciated.
