I'm looking to get an extender for my 70-200 and did some research on here but was mostly just finding posts about the 70-300 and an extender.

I don't have much of a budget so unfortunately the Canon extender series are out. I was looking at Kenko and Tamron and wanted some advice.

I have the 70-200 f/4L IS lens and I know you lose an f stop, so my f stop with the extender would be 5.6? Would I lose autofocus with that? I'm looking to use it to mostly shoot sports so autofocus and a fast shutter speed are still a must for me.

I also realize I am going to lose some image quality & sharpness, just don't want to lose a drastic amount (if possible).

If this is not something that is possible with the Kenko or Tamron series then I'll just have to wait til I have a higher budget, but was looking for something I have coming up next month for a softball game. I just don't want to buy it and be unhappy with it.

Since y'all have probably had some experience with extenders, I was just hoping for some advice. Thanks for any input!

the f4 IS is excellent with a kenko 1.4 TC. I've used the older canon TC too but it did not AF as well nor was the IQ as good. get a kenko!

Love the turd out of my kenko 2x and its not even the dgx or dg version. For optimum sharpness u will need to stop down at least one click (1/3 stop)

Also I haven't noticed any loss in Af speed with the kenko

I use this combination currently for doing wildlife photos and I have zero complaints. Autofocus is very fast and accurate and the IQ is very good, I have no complaints at all about sharpness.

i've seen a lot of reviews from people using the kenko tubes saying they get a lot of out of focus images. any of you have issues with that?

also - is this the one you have, talley? http://www.amazon.com …1&keywords=kenko+2x+canon (external link)

No. Mine is the pro 300 but not the dgx or the previous dg model. Its earlier than that

I have noticed AF slows down a bit with the extender. It is still fast enough though, and the IQ hit is very minimal.
