Sorry if this has been covered before but I searched the forums + read the manual before posting and couldn't find the answer anywhere.

Does the 600EX-RT auto zoom while in slave/wireless mode? I'm assuming it doesn't since autozoom works when the flash is attached to my camera hotshoe but figured I should ask anyway. Using a 5D Mk III + ST-E3 transmitter. 600EX-RT is off-camera and in slave mode. When I try to dial in auto zoom on the flash, the 600EX just says A(uto) 135mm, regardless of what lens I have attached. Flash head is pointed straight ahead and wide angle diffuser is not sticking out, so I know that couldn't be affecting it.

Off-camera autozoom would be pretty silly. It can't zoom to correctly illuminate the field of view unless it knows its distance from the subject and the angle off camera axis.

In other words, no.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I thought about it more after I made my post and realized that autozoom wouldn't be possible for the same reason you suggested. How is the camera supposed to know where the flash is positioned?

New flash though so I just wanted to be sure! :)

When set as a slave, the flash assumes a certain zoom position, which is assumed to be appropriate for most cases. But you can manually zoom a slave, if you want to, in order to create any special effect (concentrated light at a certain place in the image, for example).
The same goes for bouncing a flash that's mounted on the hot shoe.

The relatively inexpensive YN-622C triggers allow zoom control from the camera's menu. In auto, with the head in the normal position, the flash will follow the focal length of the lens. Zoom can also be set manually, irrespective of head position, provided the wide panel is stowed. The "feature" can be disabled on an individual receiver, leaving one to set the desired zoom on that flash alone.
