I realize there is already a Canon 40D thread at ( https://photography-on-the.net …highlight=Canon+40D+Users ) but as a somwwhat new owner and user of said camera I was wondering if a new thread would re-kindle more interest for people using this fine camera. If I am out of line for asking this I do apologize. Thanks for reading
Chuck

That thread is still active. I'm not certain what another thread would do differently.

Probably wouldn't get much for the 40D on a trade I suspect. I love my 40D, but I did just purchase a 5DM3 and feel like I am in a new ball game. I am not getting rid of my 40D. It will serve as a second/backup camera or fir times when I want the reach of the crop sensor. I recently made a comparison test shot between the two cameras (subject of an earlier post) with all settings being exactly the same on both bodies. Here is the result.

The shot from the 40D is the top one. Click on it to go to my flickr site to get the EXIF info. Essentially, I placed one camera on my tripod with a 100mm f/2.8 Macro, took the picture, then moved the lens to the other camera, exchanged camera's on the tripod, and shot with the same exact settings. To make the above composite, I cropped the result from the 5DM3 to match (as closely as possible) the result from the 40D. You can see better detail from the 5DM3, but the 40D really holds its own, IMO. I find it interesting that the color is so different.

The 40d image does seem a little more saturated but indeed very close to each other. Thanks for the share

I've had my 40D since 2008. I love it and I have no reason to upgrade. It is still one of the highly favorably reviewed cameras.
